A Glittering new trail for 2014.

Christmas at Kew is a unique night-time experience. Guided by snowflakes, you follow a new one-mile glittering trail as it winds its way through the world-famous botanic gardens in a magical after dark experience. This year you’ll find giant light sculptures, the Tunnel of LIghts, Mistletoe Moments and much more. With Christmas trees, festive treats and music along the way, you’ll have the perfect Christmas experience.

New for 2014 Kew’s winter landscape offers something for everyone. Guided by snowflakes, the new one mile glittering trail winds its way through the world famous botanic gardens in a magical after dark experience. Wander between glowing waterside reflections, illuminated fountains and grand glasshouses as Kew’s iconic architecture and unique tree canopies are brought to life drenched in Christmas colour. Along the way gaze at giant light sculptures, bright and luminous, like fireworks frozen in time, walk the shimmering Tunnel of Lights and perhaps steal a kiss at Mistletoe Moments. Stand among twinkling holly bushes and Christmas trees festooned with seasonal cheer as plumes of fire dance to festive music inspired by The Nutcracker set against a frosty, snow-flaked Palm House panorama.

Kew’s annual seasonal makeover is returning. French studio design team TILT are creating 27 botanically-inspired light installations, which will be dotted along the route. The large-scale pieces (the biggest is 12 by 12 meters), designed to give the appearance of fireworks frozen in time, include giant luminous lily-of-the-valleys and light-up thistles. We’re imagining something like a neon version of Dale Chihuly’s spectacular ‘Gardens of Glass’ installation at Kew back in 2005. The emphasis really is on sparkle this year, with illuminated fountains, reflective glasshouses and glittering trees

  1. enjoyed a lovely mild winter’s evening at Kew. Lights and light shows were better than last year’s, although I missed all that Glasto mud(!) I’d say there could have been more lights and more spectacular lighting effects, although the arrangements they had put together we’re very good.
generally good and very interesting. Found tour on train good to get overview of whole garden. Disappointed that lift to tree walk was out of action for maintenance as thiswas really important for disabled visitor. Shoud have been mentioned at entrance also other buildings closed for refurbishment.
