The 2015 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Winter Games will take place in North Bay, Ontario in February. The winter olympic event will be the largest multi-sport and cultural event to ever be held in Prince George and northern British Columbia and is forecasted to generate an economic impact of over $90 million while building champions and inspiring dreams amongst Canadian youth. The 2015 Special Olympics BC Winter Games Organizing Committee is pleased to announce the sponsors who have signed on to date, and is inviting volunteers and additional sponsors to get involved in this inspiring display of sportsmanship, determination, pride, and joy. Prince George is the first city in British Columbia to host a winter edition of the Canada Games and together with our Official Host First Nation, the Lheidli T’enneh, we can’t wait to extend a heartfelt welcome to the athletes from over 800 communities who will be joining us for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. This event will be supported by the North Bay Police Service. The association between the Law Enforcement community and Special Olympics dates back more than 30 years. Under the banner of the Law Enforcement for Special Olympics, the Torch Run is the largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics, raising over $450 million world-wide since its inception.

Games and events

The curling, figure skating, and speed skating events will be hosted at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre, and floor hockey events will be held in School District 73 schools. The alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing events will be hosted at Sun Peaks Resort. The Games will kick off with the Opening Ceremony on the evening of February 19 at the Tournament Capital Centre, where all the teams will get to march in proudly and be welcomed to Kamloops.

Snowboard Ontario Announces 2015 Canada Winter Games Team

Held every four years, the Canada Winter Games brings together athletes, coaches and hundreds of media and thousands of visitors. After careful consideration of the 30+ athletes that applied and through the eligibility outlined in the approved Selection Criteria, Snowboard Ontario is pleased to announce the selected athletes that will compete for Team Ontario at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, February 13 to March 1. Below is a listing of the artists performing during the 2015 Canada Winter Games Coldsnap Festival.From February 13 until March 1, 2015, over 60 music, theatre and visual artist groups, representing over 200 individual artists, will perform during our multi-disciplinary festival. This festival features 100 per cent Canadian talent, presented by Treasure Cove Casino, performing on the BCLC Centre Stage at Canada Games Plaza nightly from 17:00 – 21:00.
