This year’s climbing camp has a lot to offer for the beginning to intermediate level rock climber. Even when you’re an advanced rock climber we will find the correct challenge for you. You will enjoy all of the Gorge has to offer. Excellent sport and traditional climbing are available all throughout the Gorge. After receiving your tent assignment and making newer and more effective friends we will head out to Horse Thief Butte for the introduction to climbing outdoors. We’ll learn to belay a leader, rappel, build anchors and discover the techniques necessary to ascend vertical rock safely.

Different Adventure Teen Climbing Camp

There are plenty of places to climb with your a variety of climbing available it defies the imagination. Beacon Rock offers long multi-pitch traditional climbing on flawless rock as the Ozone offers bolted sport climbing at each level. We will visit and climb at various locations through the Gorge until we leave for Smith Rocks where we’ll climb with Lynn Hill and/or Beth Rodden. It is really an amazing opportunity to learn from the best. Lynn Hill, renowned for her all free per day ascent of the Nose route on El Captain will observe you climbing and provide tips and techniques to make you a better and more efficient climber. You’re going to get a chance to hang with the big dogs! Within our second session, August 1-10, we’ll climb with Beth Rodden at Smith Rocks.

Beth is among the strongest and best female rock climbers on the planet with many 5.14 first ascents. This girl really rocks.

While days at Smith Rocks in July and August can be quite warm we will round out our days with a few swimming and relaxing at nearby Steelhead Falls. Perhaps we’ll even get the chance to slackline across the falls

Whenever we return to the Gorge each day of R&R includes swimming in the popular Mosier pocket, Coburg beach around the Columbia, climbing Dog Creek Falls along with a hike/swim down the spectacular Oneonta Gorge. There is really something for everyone in this camp. While all camps are centered on fun, safety is our number one concern. This camp will include professional instruction and all sorts of basic tools and techniques essential for safe climbing. You are envisioned having your own harness, climbing shoes and private anchor. All other climbing gear is supplied by the camp.

So are you prepared to rock? There’s a lot to see and do in the Columbia River Gorge. I am looking forward to meeting you all and becoming outside to do some climbing soon.
